Summer is just around the corner, and we like to mix things up in the College Group during this time. So…this summer, we won’t be meeting on Sunday mornings, nor will we have a regular weekly meeting. Use this as an opportunity to get plugged into other places of ministry at Grace! For instance, the Children’s Ministry has a special program and is currently looking for people to help run it.

So what are we going to be doing this summer? We have 3 big events. They are…

BBQ & Pool Party: June 8th

Summer Retreat/Camping Trip: July 26th-29th

Beach Day: sometime in August.

End of Summer BBQ & Talent Show

When: Tuesday night, May 8th, 6pm
What: Will be bbq-ing, swimming, and sharing our talents with each other

Where else will you have an opportunity to watch Carole sing, Tytus dance, Chris solve a rubiks cube while doing a wheelie in a wheelchair (seriously), and taste a dessert from this restaurant http://elevenmadisonpark.com/ (my contribution to the talent show), all at the same time?

In celebration of our semester together, bring an empty stomach, a swimsuit, and a talent to share!

Get Your Stuff Together: Reading Scripture

Similar to evangelism, which we looked at the week before, the topic of reading Scripture is likely to induce feelings of guilt, and then from that emerges new determinations to study Scripture, which then fade away after a week’s time. Part of the issue for us is not that we don’t like Scripture, but we just have a hard time understanding it. We read the words and scratch our heads, wondering, how is this applicable to my life? Tonight we have a very special guest to lead our discussion of this. Lou Huesmann is the senior pastor here at Grace and has spent his life committed to reading and studying Scripture well. He has great wisdom to share with us concerning the role of Scripture in our lives, what it takes to read well, and what kind of posture we need to appropriates its truth.

Join us for an incredible weekend in beautiful Santa Monica. We’ll be staying at a sweet hostel in downtown Santa Monica, a few blocks from the beach. How can we actually proclaim the gospel not from a place of fear and guilt, but actually out of joy and deep love for our neighbors? Join us as we discuss both the calling and the joy of witnessing to the Gospel.

Tonight we have a guest speaker, Pastor Jesse Krohmer. Jesse will be speaking to us about eating, drinking, and self-control, and why these things are an important part of honoring God and pursuing wisdom.

What might it mean to pursue wisdom in the way that we go about dating or even moving towards marriage? Should the way we go about dating be any different from the way our culture goes about it? What are warning signs of a bad relationship? What are positive signs of a healthy relationship?

Eric & Sarah Marsh will be leading our discussion of these issues. They have been leading Life Groups on marriage for a few years now. They have 4 kids, and a ton of wisdom concerning dating and marriage. Hope to see you there!

You can have all the intentions in the world to get employed so that you no longer (as an adult) have to rely on your parents, and so that you can wisely steward your time and money, but intentions don’t bring a paycheck. Tonight we dig into the very practical aspects of finding a job, including searching for a job, filling out an application, and interviewing well. To lead us in this, we have a special guest, Randy Marshman. Randy is a member of Grace and works for Bowers Ambulance Co. For his job, he interviews, hires, and fires people…and so is well equipped to talk to us about finding a job. He also has a heart for young adults to pursue wisdom in this area of their life.

Is work just a means to survive, or could it actually be something we are called to do by God? To help us learn about this timely issue, we have a special guest speaker. Cory Willson is an elder at Grace, currently pursuing his PhD in Theology and Culture. Cory has studied and thought about this issue a ton, and we are very blessed to have him visit the college group. Bring your friends and show up on time!
