The unfamiliar burdens of moving out of your parents’ house…the intimidation of stepping into a 200+ person lecture hall…the lure of a party culture that worships novelty and intensity for their own sakes. What is customarily called the “college experience” often presents us young adults with more than we can bear. Amidst the cacophony of voices within the university, the uncertainties of post-adolescence, and the pressures of growing up in a post-Christian culture, how can we as young adults become faithful disciples of Jesus?
The College Group at Grace is a group of 18-23 year olds exploring the answer to that very question. As a part of Grace of Long Beach, we are committed to our church’s mission to be a community of the new creation, living out of the gospel, for the flourishing of all, and to be faithful to that mission in our own particular context.
What we are committed to doing…
- Provide contexts for healthy and godly friendships to develop and grow.
- Cultivate wisdom in the way we study, develop friendships, work, relate to our families, etc.
- Participate in the truthful and joyful worship of God.
- Engage in the ancient practices of the Church (footwashing, Bread & Cup, prayer).
- Teach the Scriptures and preaching the God of those Scriptures in all His complexity, beauty, and glory.
- Discern together the will of God in our particular context (as 21st century young adults who live in Long Beach).
- Serve and receive the gifts of those on the margins of our city.
